SCI REMC is searching for either an experience Staking Technician or a motivated, detailed-oriented, quick learner who wants a challenging and rewarding career. The Staking Tech is the first face of the local electric/fiber cooperative to new members.
South Central Indiana REMC (SCI REMC) is a not-for-profit electric distribution, member-owned cooperative. The cooperative is a leader in distribution technology and is headquartered in a new and progressive facility in Martinsville, Indiana. SCI REMC serves seven counties including Morgan, Monroe, Owen, Brown, Johnson, Putnam and Clay with over 3,542 miles of energized lines and 33,549 meters serving 29,000 members. SCI REMC also has a fiber division that offers broadband services to its members’ homes and business.
The general objectives for this position include:
- Perform staking functions and inspection of new and/or existing single-phase electric and fiber services as requested by members;
- Perform staking functions and inspection of fiber and minor system improvements as assigned.
- Providing technical recommendations based upon current SCI guidelines to fellow employees and members.
- Leveraging opportunities to develop member support, understanding, and acceptance of the Engineering Department activities as they pertain to membership.
More Experienced Staking Techs are also involved with system improvements staking, fiber drops and design recommendations.

** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS **
EDUCATION:
- Two years of college or technical school in electrical or electronics engineering or equivalent, demonstrated work experience in a related technical or utility position.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a public contact position with related job duties, such as engineering, electrical, survey, or journeyman lineman preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have the ability to design requested services and to prepare staking sheets and material sheets for work orders, based on a review of the Service Order Request and a field inspection of the site.
- Must be able to read and interpret one lines, schematics, or technical drawings.
- Must have the ability to estimate the cost of a new service to the consumer and to the Cooperative.
- Must be very proficient with operating various computer applications and have the ability obtain and analyze customer information using engineering and mapping software.
- Must be capable of communicating actively with management, employees, members, personnel from other organizations and the general public.
- Must be able to work effectively on a daily basis with a variety of individuals.
- Must be regular in work attendance.
- Must be able to work independently to meet deadlines
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
