Company and Position Summary
South Central Indiana REMC (SCI REMC) is seeking candidates for a leadership role in Electric Line Operations. SCI REMC is the largest not-for-profit electric and fiber distribution cooperative in Indiana and a leader in innovative technology. The cooperative focuses on providing safe, reliable, cost-effective electricity and fiber solutions to its members in seven counties in south central Indiana.
The cooperative is headquartered in a progressive facility in Martinsville, Indiana located just 30 minutes south of the Indianapolis airport and 15 minutes north of Bloomington, Indiana off of I-69. SCI REMC serves 3,987 miles of energized lines with over 29,800 electric members and nearly 12,000 residential and business fiber subscribers. SCI REMC employs about 150 highly valued, member-focused team members. The Fiber Division of SCI REMC offers high-speed, quality broadband services to homes and businesses plus fiber transport systems to ensure a reliable network service with a high level of member/subscriber experience satisfaction.
SCI REMC is looking for a safety-focused, qualified candidate for the Assistant Manager, Operations. The best candidates will have demonstrated electric distribution line knowledge with leadership ability to continue a culture of trust and respect in the line department team. The best candidates will also have the proven ability to organize and lead all aspects of electric line contractors and oversee and coordinate contracts and contractors with the Fiber Division and Vegetation Management. This is a key position in the Electric Operations department and is a member of management with all the authority needed to fill in for the Operations Manager, as needed.
This key position’s general responsibilities include:
- Provide oversight and technical support for the electric line contractors to meet the needs of Operations with appropriate documents, records, RUS standards, SCI contract and ethics policy compliance as contract terms are met.
- Fill in for the Manager, Operations, as needed, to direct Line/Operations personnel in working safely and efficiently and keeping upper management informed of pertinent information.
- Provides high-level oversight over contracts for VM and Fiber to ensure SCI policies are followed for bidding (RFP’s, RUS compliance and ethics policy). Coordinates with department management to resolve issues, track and report timelines and ensure contract terms are met.
- Manage assigned projects from project start to project closeout, which includes following policy to ensure appropriate contractors are in place and contract requirements are met.
- Assist the electric and fiber division managers in the development of construction work plans and budgets.

** QUALIFICATIONS **
EDUCATION:
Associate level degree or equivalent experience in a related field is required.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five years’ relevant electric utility in line construction and/or project management. Experience with a rural electric distribution system and RUS standards and contract requirements is preferred. Leadership skills and experience managing union employees and maintaining positive morale.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Leadership skills and safety knowledge of Line positions required to fill-in for Operations Manager when not available or as needed with same or similar level of authority, problem-solving ability, and discretion.
- Organizational and strong teamwork skills with the ability to oversee, coordinate and review contracts for bidding and compliance with VM and Fiber department leaders.
- Must Provide oversight and technical support for the electric line contractors to ensure compliance with all applicable safety rules, construction standards, and company contract and ethics policies.
- Provide oversight and coordination for contract bidding, terms, compliance and accountability with VM and Fiber department management to meet RUS requirements as well as meeting company contract and ethics policies.
- Must prepare bid packages, analyze bids, and make contract awards in compliance with RUS requirements and industry best practices.
- Possess skills and ability for problem solving, conflict resolution and critical thinking to resolve conflicts related to contractor construction projects such as property damage complaints, traffic control, safety concerns, etc. and coordinate comparative resolutions for contractors with Operations, VM and Fiber to resolve issues.
- Must meet project schedules and budgets for electric work completed by contractor resources.
- Must possess the organizational skills needed to coordinate and maintain contract tracking for Line, VM and Fiber and to ensure SCI policies are followed including contract authority and ethical behavior.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management employees, members, and others.
- Must possess leadership ability to lead with or without direct authority and establish respect and credibility with team members.
- Must be able to work effectively on a daily basis with a variety of individuals.
- Must be able to tolerate stress and to remain calm and efficient and courteous under pressure.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
- Must be regular in work attendance.
