KNOWLEDGE
- Understands and adheres to the safety and security procedures stated in the Northeastern REMC Safety Manual. Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines. Reports potentially unsafe conditions. Safety work rules and good general work practices are followed on a daily basis.
- Be knowledgeable of Northeastern REMC operations, policies, products and services.
- The cooperative’s line numbering/mapping system.
SKILLS
- Basic computer skills including the use of the department’s iPad for accessing information.
- Performing bucket truck and pole top rescues.
- Obtain forklift certification when training is provided.
- Be able to perform first aid and CPR. Keeping certifications valid and up to date.
- Good organization skills that accurately scope the length and difficulty of tasks and/or projects. Able to set objectives and goals. Uses resources effectively and efficiently.
ABILITIES
- Must be willing to enter an approved lineman apprentice training program to prepare for advancement to lineman when NREMC determines there is a need. Will need to learn and become proficient in climbing poles.
- Ability to use good judgement when making decisions, that are sound, accurate, safe and supported by inclusion of appropriate people within an appropriate timeframe.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (other reasonably related duties may be assigned)
- Perform construction and maintenance activities such as digging trenches for lines, excavating, climbing and working from poles and ladders.
- Load, unload, handle, frame, set and remove poles and/or equipment.
- Dig and backfill excavations, i. e., poles, anchors, underground conduit, secondary/primary conductor, and vaults.
- Locating primary and secondary lines.
- Handle tools and materials such as: wire, cable and line hardware. Ensure that tools and equipment are properly used and in good working order. Be able to repair tools as needed such as replacing handles, sharpening and cleaning.
- Operate portable power tools, generators, fans and pumps.
- Set and remove barricades, flags, signs and flares. Direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Prepare sites for meter installation by cutting and removing trees, weeds and brush.
- Accept emergency, 24-hour standby calls on off-duty hours, according to weekly schedules, per the “line service watch duty” portion of the Trades and Crafts Working Agreement.
- Assist with activities related to system restoration due to storms or other disaster events as required.
- Assist with snow removal and building maintenance.
- Rescue co-workers when needed from hazardous situations using pole-top and bucket truck techniques.

This position requires a high level of physical activity that includes constant standing, physical strain and lifting up to 100lbs. Visual acuity and precise overall motor skills needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Minimum eight hours a day, five days a week. Primarily works outside. Job sites can include driving and/or walking on slippery, uneven and rough surfaces. Subject to extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils.
