Boone REMC is looking for a Bookkeeper.

The Bookkeeper performs a variety of accounting and clerical functions related to accounts payable. This position will share responsibility for accounts payables and receivables to support the daily accounting activities of the Cooperative, month-end processes, year-end audit processes and various special projects; general ledger transactions and reports, balancing, reconciliations; cash receipts and disbursements.

Bookkeeping Functions

• Receives, processes, codes, and verifies invoices.
• Creates, tracks and records purchase orders.
• Manages accounts payable email daily.
• Facilitates reconciliation of capital credit refunds and reissues.
• Processes invoices and payments weekly.
• Receives and verifies expense reports; reconciles expense and other financial reports with account balances and other office records.
• Facilitates payment of vendors, which may include verification of federal ID numbers, reviewing purchase orders, and resolving discrepancies.
• Ensures outstanding obligations are credited upon payment, identifies discount opportunities, and issues purchase order amendments or stop-payment orders as needed.
• Assists with accounting records and ledgers by reconciling monthly statements and transactions.
• Assists with the completion of daily bank reconciliation.
• Assists with the completion of month-end closing processes.
• Assists with the completion of year-end audit processes.
• Calculates and reports sales and use tax based on paid invoices.
• Assists with various special accounting projects.

The successful candidate will report to the VP of Corporate Services/CFO. Other items may be assigned according to business needs and directives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, or equivalent, required; a minimum of an associate’s degree is preferred.
• Two years’ experience in bookkeeping or financial records.
• Demonstrates high levels of integrity and accountability.
• Ability to expertly organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
• Ability to apply arithmetic concepts such as fractions, ratios and proportions to real scenarios.
• Demonstrates a proficiency in common office applications and equipment, and accounting software systems, including Microsoft applications.
• Ability to follow procedures and processes established by legal counsel and governmental guidelines.
