Position Summary
The Groundman assists linemen in the construction, replacement, and maintenance of the electric distribution lines, structures, and equipment. Responsibilities include digging holes for utility poles, flagging traffic, framing poles, identifying materials, tools and equipment needed for assigned jobs, and loading/unloading materials and equipment. This is a bargaining unit position.
Preferred candidates will possess the qualifications listed below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Experience operating digger derrick trucks, bucket trucks, chain saws, and other construction/maintenance equipment preferred.
- Proficiency with computers and related technology.
- First aid and CPR certification or the ability to obtain.
Personal & Position Qualifications:
- Valid Indiana Driver’s License.
- Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within 180 days.
- Physical ability to perform work outdoors in all weather, dig holes for utility poles, lift up to 100lbs, flag traffic, walk on varied terrain, and clear rights-of-way.
- Ability to read and follow cooperative maps, safety manuals, work orders, staking sheets and other documentation related to work being performed.
- Demonstrate initiative, sound judgement and teamwork.
- Must meet residency requirements within one year of hire.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate commercial vehicles and other line equipment.
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing per FMCSA regulations and Cooperative policies.
Candidates selected for an interview must be available on Saturday, April 18, 2026, to participate in Groundman Testing.
