OPPORTUNITIES
WHO WE ARE
Jasper County REMC is a progressive, community-focused, member-owned cooperative delivering two vital resources to our region: power and high-speed broadband. For over 88 years, we’ve ensured our rural communities have the safe, reliable, and affordable electric service they deserve, and since 2022, we’ve been rapidly expanding our fiber footprint to help our region grow and thrive. Today, we proudly serve approximately 10,000 electric meters across 1,200 miles of line and 1,300 broadband services over 600 miles of fiber.
THE RENSSELAER ADVANTAGE: THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
Headquartered in Rensselaer, Indiana, we offer a unique lifestyle balance that adapts to whatever you and your family love to do.
- Small-Town Charm, Big-City Access: Enjoy a close-knit, safe community with excellent schools, a vibrant local culture, and a relaxed pace of life. When you want a change of pace, you’re just a convenient drive away from the world-class dining, sports, and entertainment of Chicago and Indianapolis.
- Room to Breathe: Whether your passion is farming, outdoor recreation, high school sports, or unique local hobbies, our region provides the space and time to enjoy your life outside of the office.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
With a dynamic new CEO in place, we are building a visionary leadership team for the future. We are looking for an adaptable, high-integrity financial leader to serve as our Director of Finance and Accounting. This is a unique opportunity to truly shape, mentor, and develop our finance department. We want a strategic partner with strong financial acumen and exceptional communication skills who can cultivate a collaborative, safe, and efficient environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
As an integral member of our executive team, you will oversee all financial and accounting functions for both our electric and broadband segments. You will drive the cooperative’s financial strategy, managing accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, investments, risk management, and auditing functions.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Your journey begins with deep collaboration. During your first few months, you will work side-by-side with our Staff Accountant and Plant Accountant/Work Order Clerk. True leadership here means understanding the day-to-day work of your direct reports so deeply that you can step in and support them whenever needed.
From there, you will partner directly with the CEO to engineer our future:
- Strategic Forecasting: Conduct long-range financial forecasting, annual budgeting, and business case development to guide our growth.
- Portfolio & Risk Management: Develop cash requirements and a debt portfolio strategy aligned with the Board of Directors’ risk tolerance.
- Compliance & Reporting: Maintain loan fund records, prepare fund requisitions, and manage standard regulatory reporting (monthly, quarterly, and annual).
- Board Engagement: Attend monthly board meetings to present clear, transparent financial updates and act as the trusted financial advisor to our Board of Directors.
- Key Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison with cooperative personnel, auditors, banking partners, and external representatives.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience. Experience in the electric utility, broadband, or energy sector is highly preferred.
- Credentials: A CPA or equivalent certification is a plus.
- Skills: Deep familiarity with Microsoft Office/Windows environments. You should thrive in a fast-paced environment, possessing the sharp attention to detail required to manage multiple moving parts with autonomy.
- Requirements: A valid driver’s license.
WHAT YOU’LL GET FROM US (Beyond the Paycheck)
We believe that taking care of our community starts with taking care of our employees. We structure our benefits to support your health, your family, your hobbies, and your future:
- Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus a Health Savings Account (HSA) with a generous employer contribution.
- Peace of Mind: Company-provided basic life insurance, AD&D, business travel insurance, and short/long-term disability benefits (eligible after one month).
- Elite Retirement Security: We offer an exceptional retirement package to ensure your long-term peace of mind. After one year of service, you will be eligible for both a traditional pension plan and a 401(k) plan with a company match.
- True Work-Life Balance: Generous paid time off (PTO) because we know that time spent with family and pursuing your passions is what keeps you at your best.
