WHO WE ARE
Jasper County REMC is a progressive, community-focused, member-owned cooperative delivering two vital resources to our region: power and high-speed broadband. For over 88 years, we’ve ensured our rural communities have the safe, reliable, and affordable electric service they deserve, and since 2022, we’ve been rapidly expanding our fiber footprint to help our region grow and thrive. Today, we proudly serve approximately 10,000 electric meters across 1,200 miles of line and 1,300 broadband services over 600 miles of fiber.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
With a dynamic new CEO in place, we are building a visionary leadership team for the future. We are looking for an adaptable and analytical leader to serve as our Director of Engineering and Technology. This is a unique opportunity to truly shape, mentor, and develop our Engineering and Technology department. We want a strategic partner with strong technical acumen and exceptional communication skills who can cultivate a collaborative, safe, and efficient environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
As an integral member of our executive team, you will oversee the strategic planning, project management, and technical execution of the cooperative’s infrastructure. You will drive our grid modernization strategy by directing the design, construction, and maintenance of safe, reliable, and cost-effective electric distribution and substation facilities. Additionally, you will serve as a vital cross-functional leader, providing critical engineering support and technical direction to ensure our expanding broadband network is robust, resilient, and perfectly integrated with our physical grid.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Your journey begins with deep collaboration. During your first few months, you will work closely with our Engineering, Metering, IT, and Warehouse departments. True leadership here means understanding the day-to-day work of your direct reports so deeply that you can step in and support them whenever needed.
From there, you will partner directly with the CEO to engineer our future:
- Strategic Forecasting: Provide technical support documentation, data-driven insights, and engineering forecasts required for the cooperative’s Strategic Plan, Financial Forecast, and Business Plan. Develop, manage, and execute an annual budget and multi-year Construction Work Plans.
- System Analysis & Infrastructure: Oversee the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of the cooperative’s electric system simulation distribution models, ensuring physical infrastructure and pole attachments safely accommodate broadband deployment.
- Studies & Technical Coordination: Monitor and study trends to offer proactive recommendations to ensure system reliability. Direct and review critical engineering studies to maximize stability, service reliability, and broadband network integration.
- Compliance & Reporting: Directly author or provide executive oversight for the development of mandatory regulatory studies, reports, and joint-use.
- Emergency Support: Participate in the management team’s emergency response and storm restoration efforts by providing engineering, technology, and routing support to Operations during major outage events to efficiently restore both power and fiber connectivity.
- Board Engagement: Attend monthly board meetings (as requested) to provide expert testimony and reports on engineering projects, system reliability, and emerging industry trends to our Board of Directors.
- Key Collaboration: Serve as the primary liaison for engineering and technology concerns with cooperative personnel and external representatives. Provide high-level technical guidance to the Operations department and broadband teams to ensure seamless joint-use execution.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required. Power systems emphasis preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 7–10 years of progressive engineering experience at an electric utility, with a strong preference for electric cooperative experience. Proven supervisory or management experience required.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Indiana, or the ability to obtain one via reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe, is highly preferred.
- Software/Tools: Strong familiarity with Milsoft Windmil (or equivalent engineering analysis software) and NISC software packages is highly desirable.
- Skills: You should thrive in a fast-paced environment, possessing the sharp attention to detail required to manage multiple moving parts with autonomy.
- Requirements: A valid driver’s license.
