POSITION SUMMARY
Serves as Hoosier Energy’s lead commercial originator for large load power supply, procurement, and transaction efforts necessary to support strategic customer growth opportunities. Acts as the central point of coordination between the interdepartmental large load team and power supply to ensure customer requirements are evaluated, communicated, and incorporated into portfolio planning, procurement strategies, and risk mitigation. Additional responsibilities include a primary role in identification, evaluation, commercial development, and execution of strategic energy and capacity opportunities supporting Hoosier Energy’s evolving portfolio and large-load requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as the primary power supply portfolio representative for data centers, large commercial and industrial loads, industrial expansions, and economic development projects.
- Evaluates the capacity, energy, resource adequacy, and portfolio impacts of prospective large-load opportunities.
- Supports negotiations with customers, developers, member systems, and other stakeholders regarding resource commitments and commercial terms.
- Develops innovative commercial structures that balance customer needs, system reliability requirements, risk management objectives, and portfolio economics.
- Provides ongoing strategic support to the Large Load Team by identifying resource options, evaluating market alternatives, conducting risk assessments, and communicating portfolio implications associated with customer proposals.
- Coordinates large load capacity committee(s), timeline risk identification, ISO coordination, and monitoring of portfolio sufficiency.
- Identifies, evaluates, and originates strategic resource opportunities that support Hoosier Energy’s capacity, energy, and portfolio objectives.
- Develops and maintains industry relationships to identify emerging opportunities and advance commercial transactions.
- Major role in transaction development activities, including commercial structuring, negotiations, due diligence, contract execution, and risk assessment.
- Monitors market developments, technologies, and industry trends affecting Hoosier Energy’s portfolio.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, engineering, data science, energy management, or a related field minimum.
- Graduate degree in business, finance, economics, data science, engineering, law, or related discipline preferred.
Experience:
- 7 years of progressively responsible experience in utility commercial transactions, power marketing, energy procurement, resource origination, business development, generation development, or a related field. Demonstrated experience negotiating commercial agreements and structured energy or capacity transactions minimum.
- Experience with MISO, resource adequacy, large-load or data-center development, generation development, power purchase agreements, or capacity-market transactions preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of wholesale power markets, capacity markets, resource adequacy, and utility portfolio management.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, structure, negotiate, and advance complex commercial transactions.
- Strong business judgment and ability to evaluate commercial, operational, regulatory, contractual, and portfolio risks.
- Ability to build productive relationships with counterparties and identify opportunities through industry networks.
- Strong negotiation, communication, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate multiple transactions and priorities.
- Ability to translate complex market and commercial information into clear recommendations for management.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, initiative, and ability to work independently.
- Working knowledge of MISO markets and resource adequacy requirements is preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Usual office conditions apply.
- Regular interaction with internal teams, counterparties, developers, and customers.
- Occasional travel to meetings, conferences, member systems, customer locations, and project sites.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Extended hours may be required to support negotiations, transaction deadlines, or project objectives.
