Marketing and communication professionals work with the media, local government, emergency management and others in the community to build and manage the cooperative’s reputation as an organization that adds value to its community.

Communication Specialist/Coordinator (Beginning Level)

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED

Associate degree in marketing or public relations or related degree required

Bachelor’s degree in marketing or public relations preferred

1-2 years of communication/marketing experience

Graphic design ability

Desktop publishing and writing skills

Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare internal and external publications and materials

Assist manager in writing, designing and editing marketing materials for print and social media

Assist manager with creating and conducting media relations, annual meeting and other related events

Evaluate, analyze and recommend public relations and marketing programs to the marketing manager/director

Assist other departments with designing and editing presentations and other materials


CAREER PATH

With experience, professional training, leadership development and a bachelor’s degree in a related field, move to manager or director position.

 

Marketing/Communication Manager/Director (Senior Level)

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication or public relations or related degree

Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Minimum 5 years’ marketing/communication experience preferred

Valid driver’s license

Desktop publishing, graphic design and writing skills

Ability to work with all levels to assist in writing and communication as needed

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Create and execute marketing/communication plans, including social media

Serve as high-level strategic leader

Oversee multiple programs or projects (i.e. public relations plan, annual meeting or other events)

Group presentations

Lead media relations

Work as a consultant to leadership and management to improve or maintain cooperative’s reputation in the community


CAREER PATH

With additional experience, business knowledge and relationship building, move into director, vice president or top leadership position
